Darren Winters
WIN Investing LLP

Darren Winters has been all over the newspapers with his ad, inviting people to his free day seminar on trading. If you’ve tried Russ Whitney or similar, you know the score – lots of hype and slick sales chat, with few specifics, but lots of promises and dreams.

That’s because the free seminars are simply a hard-sell for the 2 or 3 day trading seminars, which cost around £2,000, depending on where and how you signed up.

I personally like going to these free seminars because I’m interested in how people sell stuff and how these guys push out buttons. So by all means try them out. Just don’t expect to come out of the seminar with too many specific trading tools… erm… ANY trading tools, in fact.

As for the seminar, reports on this are mixed. Certainly, you’ll find out a lot of stuff about trading in those 3 days. You’ll get an overview of various types of trading, and learn some principles. You’ll also be part of an investment club, and get DVDs and other materials to take home. So if you’ve got £2,000 to spare, you’re completely new to trading, and you love going to seminars, then try it out.

But If you’ve done some trading, you might find a lot of it basic. Also, there will be a lot of talk, breaks, repetition and putting up with other people’s pointless questions. It’s also very slick and US-style pushy. Not personally my cup of tea. And I’ve heard that the buffet lunches are rubbish.

And I’ll chuck in my tuppenceworth here…

For the same price, you could get a dedicated and focussed home trading course like Don’t Tell The Professionals, which comes with tuition, trading software, email support, market overview emails and regular contact with the trader himself for a year.

Personally, I think is a better deal.

If the seminars were a grand cheaper, I’d probably give them a bigger thumbs up than I am here. So while I think you’ll get something out of the seminar… on the price alone…
