When I was a kid, I got gloomy at this time of year.
The streets would fill with 'Back to School' posters advertising charcoal grey trousers and telly programmes would be interrupted by images of helmet-haired children skipping into school with new protractors and pencil cases.
Who were these freakish Stepford Children who enjoyed the end of summer?
