Hi,
“It’s worse than I thought” he said.
Flipping down his visor, he leaned over me and stuck his metal hook deep into my back molars. Blood gushed down the back of my throat.
“Aaaaaargh” I gurgled.
That was my trip to the dentist on Thursday.
Literally – a bloody nightmare.
It was my own fault. I’d not been for five years. What with the wedding, the dog, the two kids in quick succession.... time escaped me.
That was my excuse anyway.
What really happened was that I procrastinated. I put it off... and off... making excuses... until the act of visiting the dentist became a hurdle I believed I would never overcome. Not until a 20-year old filling fell out last week.
That was when I discovered the plaque-ravaged state of my back teeth – and when the dentist got out his chisel and mini-hoover.
Ugh.
Do you ever experience this paralysis?
This same disease – procrastination I mean, not gum disease – was something I fell prey to as a younger man.
I spent my late 20s and early 30s talking about a big game where I was better than the 9-5 and destined for better things.... but doing sod all about it.
I managed to overcame my mental paralysis... slowly.
As I started getting into internet marketing and running a home business I realised that actions were more profitable that intentions.
If you’ve been reading my stuff since 2006 you’ll remember what I was like in those days – all over the place. I leapt from one half-formed idea to another. Then I was off to the pub.
The next day I’d write about my amazing plans in an email... then back off to the pub.
Luckily, I finally discovered my niche. My ‘big one’. And I’ve never looked back.
